MAHMOUD REFAT / artist presentation / talk / audio activities.

Mahmoud Refat is a sound artist/musician living and working in Cairo, the founder of 100Copies Music and 100Live electronic music festival.
progetto AUT/AUT will host an audio visual presentation of the artist and an over view of the experimental music scene in Cairo.

The work of Mahmoud Refat is mostly based on memories of locations and situations witnessed between in the past. Sounds recorded in the field are revisited and reworked to review the past through the filter of the present.
"I am always fascinated by what I find in my older sound material and how I hear and recognise it today. It reveals hidden aspects and emotions that lurk beneath 'regular' reality," says Refat.
Refat wants to pay attention to unremarkable, unnoticed sounds and patterns that have been part of daily life for himself and others. He also wishes to examine how he reacts to the sound of the past. When you re-hear sounds after several years have passed.
hearing them through speakers rather than in real life, do you then hear them in the same way? Or have they taken on new meaning in the meantime?
